WARNING
Exhaust gases contain carbon monox-
ide, which is extremely noxious if in-
haled.
Avoid starting the engine in closed or
badly-ventilated rooms.
The non-observance of this warning
may cause loss of consciousness or
even lead to death by asphyxia.
NOTE
With the side stand down, the en-
gine can be started only if the gears are in
neutral; in this case, if you try to engage
the gears, the engine stops.
With the side stand up, it is possible to start
the engine either in neutral gear or with en-
gaged gears and pulled in clutch lever.

Let the side stand up.

Get on the vehicle.
◆
Rotate the key (1) and move the ignition
switch to position “
n
”.
At this point:
– the red engine oil pressure warning
light LED “
j
” (2) comes on on the
dashboard and remains on until the
engine starts.
– the red line warning light LED “max”
(red) (3) comes on on the dashboard
for approximately three seconds and
the revolution counter pointer shifts to
the preset red line threshold;
– the instantaneous speed (4), the trip
odometer (5) and the total kilome-
tres/miles odometer (6) appear on the
left display (multifunction);
– the coolant temperature (7) and the
digital clock (8) appear on the right dis-
play (multifunction).
NOTE
When the engine is cold, the writ-
ing “
×
” is displayed.
Whenever the ignition switch is turned
to position “
n
”, the writing “
(),
” is
displayed for about three seconds.
– the fuel pump will pressurize the fuel
supply circuit, sending out a hum for
about three seconds.
NOTE
It is possible to set the unit of
measurement of the speedometer (km or
mi) and of the coolant temperature (°C or
°F), the red line threshold, the clock func-
tions and if necessary the chronometer,
see p. 18 (MULTIFUNCTION COMPU-
TER).

WARNING
The red line threshold is set at 6000 rpm
by aprilia. Increase the threshold gradu-
ally as you get acquainted with the vehi-
cle.
During running-in, never exceed the
recommended rpm, see p. 49 (RUN-
NING-IN).
