Punch out the 1/8” plywood horizontal fin control horn
HCH. Viewing from the bottom glue the control horn against
the side of the fin support and the lip of the center sheeting.
15.8
Pull out the two pieces of ½” leading edge stock 5 and
3/8” in length. Glue the leading edge stock centered on the
leading edge with CA+. After finished sand the leading edge to
a rounded finished shape.
15.9
Viewing the horizontal fin from the bottom punch out the
1/16” balsa horizontal fin center, HFC. This will fit in the cen-
ter trailing edge of the fin. Note: The HFC will be installed at a
angle therefore it is recommended to sand the upper and lower
sheet surfaces at the same angle to create a flat surface for the
HFC to be glued. When satisfied glue the HFC in place and
sand the edges flush with the upper and lower sheeting.
15.10
Working on the horizontal fin tips, punch out the two
¼” balsa pieces HFT. Glue on the fin tips making sure they are
centered on wing tip. Note, the horizontal fin tips are purposely
made larger to allow for sanding flush with the surfaces. When
complete sand the upper and lower surfaces flush with the
sheeting and leading edge.
15.11
Sand the horizontal fin tips to a rounded finished shape
using the pictures as a guide.
15.12
Pull out the two 9/32” by ¼” brass tubes. Punch out the
two lower horizontal fin supports HFS-2 from the ¼” light ply
sheet. Roughen up the outside surface of the brass tubes with
sandpaper. Glue the brass tubes into the half circle in the lower
fin supports. Put into place and drill and countersink the holes.
Temporarily install the screws to check the fit.
