During the sterilization process, the wet part first is filled with steam and afterwards will be
cooled down (depending on the set point of the temperature control loop). Schematically this
can be presented in the following way:
Sterilization of the Bioreactor (heating)
Valves V-2.06, V-2.12 and V-2.13 are opened. Water that is present in the jacket and the wet
part is removed (to the drain). When the system temperature is over 100
o
C (no more water
present in the system) the steam trap will close.
Normally the controlling device (ADI 1030/1040) is programmed in such a way that valve V-
10.05 (steam to air inlet filter) is opened as soon as the reactor temperature reaches 105
o
C. After
pre-heating the hydrophobic filter, steam can be directed to the bioreactor itself. For more
information about sterilization, refer to the operator manual of the ADI 1075 Pilot System.
During the sterilization process, the temperature control section must not
be switched off! Switching off the temperature control section may result
in large pressure differences between jacket and environment.
