5.16 Modbus TCP
Modbus is a serial communications protocol that is used with industrial automation equipment, such
as programmable logic controllers (PLCs), sensors, and meters. It is a common, simple, and robust
method of connecting industrial devices.
MODBUS TCP is a variant of the MODBUS family, vendor-neutral communication protocol
commonly used for the integration of a SCADA system; of which, it covers the use of MODBUS
messaging in an ‘intranet’ or ‘internet’ environment using the TCP/IP protocols.
According to the standard, Modbus encapsulates the message with an Ethernet TCP/IP wrapper.
Antaira’s industrial Managed Ethernet switches support Modbus TCP/IP protocol to allow users to
integrate it into those industrial control systems for real-time monitoring in a SCADA system.
