5.7.2 IGMP Snooping Status Table
Multicast filtering is the system by which end stations only receive multicast traffic if they register
to join specific multicast groups. With multicast filtering, network devices only forward multicast
traffic to the ports that are connected to registered end stations.
5.8 802.1Q VLAN
A Virtual LAN (VLAN) is a logical network grouping that limits the broadcast domain, which allows
users to isolate network traffic. Only the members of the VLAN will receive traffic from the same
members on that VLAN. Basically, creating a VLAN from a switch is logically equivalent of
reconnecting a group of network devices to another Layer 2 switch. However, all the network
devices are still physically plugged into the same switch.
