5.8 GMDSS inspections
Vessel that are subject to GMDSS regulations can expect regular visits from ship surveyors
enforcing national legislation. They might check the expiry dates and test the AIS SART to
prove that it is operational.
Leisure vessels are not subject to these inspections. However, in some countries, passenger
and fishing vessels are also subject to inspection.
