There may be various reasons for a “sync failed” returned:
For time code:

If the frame rates of sending and receiving device do not match (integer vs. non-
integer frame rates like 25 fps and 29.97 fps, the sync command is rejected.

If “OFF” is selected in the GEN>JamTC settings.

If “manual/once” is selected in the GEN>JamTC settings and the device has been
jammed before.
Select SYNC
The sync screen opens, the curser is on NO.
Push the config switch to exit without
broadcasting a sync command.
Move the curser to YES.
This initiates the broadcast of a sync
command, sending time code and user bit.
A status screen opens showing how many
devices answered, and how many of those
were synced.
The device that was used to send the sync
command will memorize when the sync
command was sent and how many devices
were successfully synchronized.
A device that received a sync command will
memorize when the sync command was
received.
