Attaching a Console to the Switch
You need the following equipment:

A terminal or TTY-compatible terminal, or a portable computer with a
serial port and the ability to emulate a VT100 terminal
❑
A UL-listed null modem RS232 cable with a female DB9 connector for
the console port on the switch and with a connector on the other end
that is appropriate for your computer or terminal

Set the terminal protocol as follows:
— 9600 baud
— No parity
— 8 bits
— 1 stop bit
— Window terminal emulation option set to
No
— Terminal preferences:

Connect the terminal (or a computer in terminal-emulation mode) to
the switch’s console port using the RS232 cable. Then turn on the
terminal.

Proceed to the section, “Powering Up and Initializing the Switch.”
Powering Up and Initializing the Switch
Power on the switch.
The switch goes through a power-on self test (POST) to verify that all
components are functioning properly. The console displays messages
similar to the following screen:
