Responsibilities of the electrical technician in charge of special maintenance.
The special maintenance electrician is the technician employed by the machine’s manufacturer or by
one of its authorized assistance centres.
This person is in charge of performing special maintenance operations upon the machine’s electrical
systems and must possess adequate technical training, working experience and a good knowledge of
the machine and of its manual.
This technician must also possess a good knowledge of the necessary documentation for performing
complex operations upon these systems.
The special maintenance electrician is authorized to:
- intervene upon parts of the system which are critical to safety;
- perform any necessary modifications to connections and wiring within the machine's electrical
panels.
The special maintenance electrician records any modifications and/or replacements in writing and
provides the ordinary maintenance electrician, as well as the manufacturer, with copies of the
documentation.
The ordinary maintenance electrician must update all of the user’s copies of the manual; the
modifications must be highlighted, and signalled in writing, within all copies of the manual for the
machine which has been modified (directly upon the original pages and, if necessary, by including
additional update sheets).
Authorization for performing special maintenance operations
As an exception to the general rule, the ordinary maintenance electrician may request authorization
from the Manufacturer to perform special maintenance operations, by following the procedure below:
- The ordinary maintenance electrician shall communicate the nature of the defect or problem which
as been identified in writing to the manufacturer, providing details and make precise technical
reference to schemes, parameters, software programs, etc.;
- The manufacturer shall evaluate the situation and adopt one of the following solutions:
- a qualified, trained and authorized technician employed by the manufacturer will be sent to perform
the intervention;
- otherwise, the manufacturer will authorize the ordinary maintenance electrician to perform the
intervention (within any limits defined by the authorization itself).
ATTENTION: IT IS FORBIDDEN to perform such interventions without the
manufacturer’s written authorization. The manufacturer shall bear no responsibility for
failure to observe this warning.

ORDINARY MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES (GENERAL INFORMATION)
7.2.1
Technical precautions for proper maintenance
For proper maintenance:
- use only original spare parts and appropriate, well-kept tools;
- respect the time periods between programmed maintenance operations (preventive and periodic)
indicated in the manual;
- the time periods indicated (in time or in work cycles) between one operation and the next are
intended as the maximum acceptable; these time periods should not be exceeded; they may,
however, be reduced;
- proper preventive maintenance requires constant attention and continual observation of the machine.
Immediately identify the cause of any eventual anomaly, such as excessive noise, overheating, fluid
leakage, etc., and take the appropriate measures to resolve it.
If in doubt, contact the manufacturer or an authorized assistance centre.
