As there are hundreds of routers on the market, they will have various options for port
forwarding. If you connect to
http://portforward.com
you can view a large range of
router makes and models that will indicate how to do port forwarding. You probably
will not find the ALIEN range of DVRs listed but you can select a device and apply
the ALIEN DVR ports that are detailed in the DVR Menu, Setup, Network and More
Settings.
The standard method on many routers is to enter the router menu using the user and
password set in the router. Setup
SERVICES
usually giving each service a unique
name for example DVR8240, DVR1240 and DVR80 selecting
TCP
and the
start
and
finish
port number (which is usually the same port number for start and end port.
Then go to port forwarding and assign each incoming port to the local address of the
DVR which is the IPv4 address set in the Network page of the DVR.

Change the
Preferred DNS Server
to the same address as the
IPv4 Default
Gateway.
Change the
Alternate DNS Server
to
8.8.8.8
Now click apply.
Select the
DDNS
tab to enter the DDNS Settings interface.
Click the
ENABLE
DDNS
checkbox to enable this feature.
If you are using the AlienDDNS service then all you need to do, is to enter a valid
Email address in the box, right of Email and press Apply then wait.
When you click in the blank Email box you will see a keyboard displayed. Select the
characters to complete the Email address. Special characters such as dot or @ can be
selected by clicking on the dot and comma under the letter A.
Subsequent lines of special characters are accessed using right arrow button.
NOTE:
The dot is a special character and is number 2 and not number 1.
The @ sign is accessed by clicking on the right arrow key to select the second line of
special characters and is under number 5. Press
APPLY
then wait.
The ALIENDDNS service will send a six character password to the Email address
and will display “
RECORD CREATED”.
Write down the password and enter in the Password box then click
Apply
and wait.
When the message
“UPDATE SUCCESSFUL”
is displayed, the DDNS service is
ready to use after exiting menu.
