Circuits Configuration - Traffic
Circuits are cross-connected using a common backplane setting for the bus. One
of the following options must be selected: E1, E3, DS1, DS3, or STM1/OC3.
• Through such selection, the node is configured as an E1, E3, DS1, DS3, or
STM1/OC3 platform.
Where support for multiple rates is required, such as E1 and STM1, a DAC
155oM is used to multiplex an STM1/OC3 stream to NxE1 or DS1, to permit a
common E1 or DS1 backplane setting.
Similarly, the DAC 3xE3/DS3M with its E13 or M13 mux function provides
support for E3 or DS3 using an E1/DS1 backplane:
• The E13 mux multiplexes a maximum of two E3 interfaces; each is multiplexed
to 16xE1.
• The M13 mux multiplexes a maximum of two DS3 interfaces; each is
multiplexed to 28xDS1.
Ethernet traffic is transported within E1, DS1, or STM1/OC3 circuits.
For protected hot-standby and diversity configurations circuit connections are
synchronized for both RACs; circuit assignments are LINK based.
Within the Circuits configuration screen, a common look and feel is supported:
• For non-protected, hot standby, and diversity links, screen operation is
identical.
• For ring protection, operation is identical except that different terminology is
used to address ring drop-insert and pass-through circuit connections.
