QuickSwap Installation and Startup
Overview
10. Connect the Column to the Inlet and QuickSwap
Inlet end
See the instructions for the inlet you are using in your GC documentation.
Much of this manual assumes that you will use a split/splitless inlet. This is
the most popular choice.
QuickSwap end
1
Insert the end of the column with the swaged ferrule into
Fitting 2
on
QuickSwap (see
2
Gently push until the column end bottoms out. Follow with the nut.
3
Finger-tighten the nut. Use a wrench to tighten the nut about 15 degrees
more.
If the ferrule is not over-tightened when the column is installed in QuickSwap,
it should provide an air-tight and leak-free seal through many removals and
re-installations.
11. Configure the Column
See your MSD ChemStation manuals for the details.
The tasks to be performed are:
a
Define the column dimensions (required so that the GC can calculate
flows and pressures).
b
Select a column flow mode (usually constant pressure or constant flow).
c
Set the column outlet pressure. Under the
Columns
icon, select
Detector
and
Other
. Select
Positive
and enter an
Outlet psig
.
C A U T I O N
The
Outlet psig
that you enter
must
be the same as the purge gas supply pressure for
accurate display and control of column flow rate during the run. For checkout methods,
this must be 4.0 psig. This is also good for most purposes. Whenever you change either
of these settings, you
must
change the other to match or the displayed column flow
will be inaccurate.
