Installation
secured to the work surface using 1/4- inch or M6 screws. in any way that
will not transmit stresses to the main enclosure and, consequently, to the
laser tube or printed- circuit assemblies.
The feet have slotted through holes for measurement- axis alignment
purposes. If necessary, the feet can be removed and the unit can be
mounted directly on a flat surface with M4X0.7 machine screws and
washers. Use the same tapped holes that are used to secure the feet to the
unit (the three outermost holes). Ensure that the mounting method does
not stress the base casting and that the screws do not penetrate the base
casting more than 7 mm. Washers should be used between the base plate
and the work surface to avoid a bending moment in the bolted joint.
Allow 50 mm (2 inches) clearance around the laser head for easy
servicing.
Allow at least 100 mm (4 inches) clearance at the back of the laser head
for cable connections.
Powering Up the Laser Head
1
Plug the laser power supply, either the Agilent 10884B or one of your
own design, into the line power (nominally 110 V or 230 V ac) to start
the laser.
All
LED
s on the rear panel of the laser head should light except for the
READY
LED
. The laser head should emit a red laser beam within
45 seconds after receiving power.
About halfway through the lock- up period, the
READY
LED
blinks on
and off to indicate that the laser is in the process of locking. When the
head is ready for use, this
LED
remains on, indicating the laser has
achieved lock and is generating a reference signal.
The 5517B/C/D Laser Head requires a 90- minute warmup period to
stabilize the frequencies before a reliable measurement can be made.
The 5517BL/DL/FL Laser Head (vented cover) requires a typical
warmup period of 45 minutes, but only if a fan and exhaust hose are
connected to the vented cover; otherwise, the warmup period is
90 minutes.
The laser head is operating properly when all four LEDs on the rear
panel are continuously illuminated.
WA RNI NG
Do not stare directly into the beam (or its reflection from a polished
surface) or this could result in eye damage.
