Chapter 8: Roof Assembly

Assembling the Center Collar

The center collar assembles each A-frame roof rafter section together at the top. The center collar assem-
bly is a two piece design and will need to be spliced together with splice plates. The center collar channels
and the cap plates will also be assembled to the center collar on the ground to make sure all the parts
align together. The channels and cap plates together with the spacers will be removed as an assembly
from the center collar and kept aside.

Before You Begin

Determine the correct orientation of the center collar in relation to any stairs or conveyor systems. Each
piece of the center collar (A) has drilled holes for the installation of the cap plates and side plates that will
be installed later. For this procedure, each piece of the center collar needs to sit securely on stands or
suitable blocks, allowing plenty of room to access the bolts on the bottom side of the assembly.

1. Locate each half of the center collar (A) and install the center collar splice plate (D) to the inside

seam on the center collar.

2. Install the flange bolts (B) and the flange nuts (C) to the inner two columns of three holes (six holes)

(F) located on the center collar splice plate (D).

NOTE:

The remaining two columns of three holes (six holes) in the center collar splice plate (D) will
be used when installing the A-frame rafters to the center collar (A).

3. Install the second center collar splice plate (E) to the underside of the center collar (A) seam and

install the flange bolts (B) and the flange nuts (C).

4. Repeat the same procedure for assembling the opposite side of the center collar.
