Add, Configure, and Connect: Gateway Network Element
The topics in this section explain how to add a GNE in the Nav Pane, configure it in the Config
Pane, and then connect to it via the configured Connection Type.
NOTE
For a GNE to be added to the Nav Pane, it must already be installed and
turned-up in the network.
Configuration and connection processes for a GNE differ depending on the Connection Type.
Each of the three types is explained separately in the following procedures:
• “GNE Configuration: TCP/IP – Direct Connection” on page 15
• “GNE Configuration: TCP/IP – Indirect Connection” on page 16
• “GNE Configuration: Serial Port Connection” on page 17
GNE Configuration: TCP/IP – Direct Connection
To add and configure a new GNE, and access the GNE via a Direct TCP/IP connection,
complete the following steps:
1.
Right-click the OPTI-APPS logo in the Nav Pane, and select Add Gateway NE .
A new GNE box appears in the Nav Pane.

Enter configuration data in the Config Pane (refer to Table 3 on page 11 as needed):
• GNE Name: this can be a generic label
• GNE Type: select the appropriate type (the default is
ADTRAN )
• Connection Type: select TCP/IP – Direct
• GNE IP: enter the IP address of the GNE
• FTOT Mode: select
Dedicated Session or Shared Session , as appropriate

Click Connect .
If the configuration data is correct, and the GNE is functioning normally, the GNE box in
the Nav Pane should reflect a Connected status, as shown in Figure 11 .
