Selecting the L

mode configures the unit for leased line ser-
vice or service that provides a permanent connection between end
points such as limited distance modem or LDM service; see Figure 6-3.

Leased Line/Clock Mode
By configuring the ISU 512e for M
ASTER
timing, the ISU 512e can pro-
vide clocking for both ends of the phone line. This M
ASTER
option is
intended to be used at one end of a limited distance modem applica-
tion, where two ISU 512e units are directly connected without the use
of channel banks. The far-end unit should be configured for
S
LAVE
(def) timing, deriving its clocking from the ISU 512e configured for
M
ASTER
timing.
If two ISU 512e units are connected through channel banks, one unit
should be configured for
S
LAVE
mode and the other for S
LAVE
(M
AS
-
TER
) or M
ASTER
depending on the channel bank and its configuration;
see Figure 6-4 on page 6-14. To easily configure ISU 512e’s for this ap-
plication, all three leased mode configurations are available on the
Q
UICK
S
ETUP
menu. For more information, see Quick Setup Configura-
tion on page 6-32.
The ISU 512e must be set to the B
ONDING
protocol for
leased applications.
