6.6.4.2.6 Face Velocity Verification
The AVC5000 Controller continuously calculates the face velocity using the real-time fume hood
exhaust airflow and the total open area. The AFC5000 Display/Alarm Module provides
personnel working near the fume hood with an indication of the average face velocity in
addition to providing audio and visual alarms and the ability to activate the purge function in
case of emergency. Prior to putting fume hood into service, the average face velocity displayed
by the AFC5000 should be verified by performing a field measurement taken in accordance with
ASHRAE 110-1995 (or latest edition). If desired, the displayed face velocity value can be
correlated to the field measurement using the Face Velocity Calibration procedure described
below.
6.6.4.2.6.1 Face Velocity Adjustment
The face velocity reading can be correlated to a field measurement by performing the following
procedure.

“Face Velocity Adjustment” window by either right clicking on the
Face
Velocity Gauge (A) or through the Utilities Menu located on the Task Bar (B).
