5.4.2 OCR Data Format (Internal Device)
The ATB420/421 can be supplied with an internal optional OCR reader.
The ATB420/421 outputs data from the OCR reader in the following format:
<SOD2><STX>data............data<CR><ETX><EOD2>
The Bi-Color LED will show Green for one second upon transmission of a “good read”. If one or
more “*” characters are transmitted the Bi-Color LED will flash red and the beeper (if enabled) will
sound three short beeps.
5.4.3 OCR Data Format (External Device)
The Auxiliary Port may be used for connection of an OCR Passport Reader.
Section 2.5 describes how the Port settings may be configured.
In standard mode the ATB420 receives data from an OCR reader via the Auxiliary Port in the
following format:
<STX>data............data<CR><ETX>
The ATB420 formats data from the Auxiliary Port by adding the <SOD2> to the beginning of the
string and adding <EOD2> to the end of the string and retransmits it via the Host Port as follows:
<SOD2><STX>data............data<CR><ETX><EOD2>
In standard mode, the ATB420/421 does not otherwise alter the data read via the Auxiliary port.
The Bi-Color LED will show Green for one second upon transmission of the OCR message to the
Host.
5.4.4 Bar Code Data Format
Section 2. 4 describes the physical and electrical connections for the 6 Pin DIN Bar code reader
port. The ATB420 provides a 5 Volt, 150mA maximum supply for a Bar Code device.
The Bar Code reader port can decode Wand Image bar codes and HHLC (Hand Held Laser
Connection) or un-decoded laser format data.
A decoded bar code scanner may also be connected to the Auxilliary Serial Port. Access
Keyboards recommends and supplies GWAIT3800 Bar Code scanners for this application.
(Contact Access Keyboards for details of parameter settings). Pin 9 of the Auxilliary Port provides a
+5V 150mA supply.
The ATB420/421 decodes and formats bar code data into ASCII and transmits it via the Host Port
as follows:
<SOD3><STX>[ID] data<CR><ETX><EOD3>
Where [ID] = Bar Code Symbology ID;
031H=Code Interleaved 2 of 5
032H=Code Industrial 2 of 5 and IATA 2 of 5
033H=Code 3 of 9
035H=Code 128
036H=Code PDF417 (only available through the Auxilliary Port)
