Statement of Volatility
4Links EtherSpaceLink family products do not retain any captured data after a unit is powered off. All functionality
is volatile and is loaded from a memory card. Removal of the memory card and removal of power deletes all
functionality from the unit.
The only user-dependant value stored after power-down is the IP address of the unit. The only non-volatile code
in the unit is that in an 8-bit microcontroller which is used to drive the front-panel display and to re-boot the unit
from a valid memory card.
21.1
Removing all information from a Unit
The procedure for removing all information and functionality from a unit is:
Use the front-panel switch to set the IP address to 0.0.0.0
Remove the memory card
Remove power from the unit
No user-dependant value or data now resides in the unit.
21.2
Security Notice
The configuration files stored on the memory card define the function of the unit. These are encrypted and can
be used only with the specific unit they were created for. The data on the card cannot be used to configure any
other unit.
