PREPARATION
F
OR USE
Respirator systems are intended to help reduce exposures to certain
contaminants and should always be handled with care and fully inspected
prior to use.
C
heck apparatus is complete, undamaged and correctly assembled. Any
damaged or defective parts must be replaced with original 3M spare parts
before use. Undertake pre-use checks on Promask FM3/ VisionFM4
Facemasks and TR-602E/TR-802E Powered Air Turbo as outlined in the
appropriate user instruction.
Breathing Tube
Inspect the breathing tube for tears, holes or cracks. Ensure two gaskets
are present at the end of the breathing tube that connects to the
TR-602E/TR-802E Powered Air Turbo (see Fig 1), and ensure they are
not damaged. The breathing tube should fit firmly into the Powered Air
Turbo and should attach securely to the Promask FM3/ VisionFM4 Full
Facemask.
Airflow Che
c
k
Note:
The TR-973 Airflow Indicator must be connected to the
TR-602E/TR-802E Powered Air Turbo prior to powering on the Powered
Air Turbo in order to activate tight-fitting mode. If the Powered Air Turbo is
powered on prior to connecting the TR-973 Airflow Indicator, the Powered
Air Turbo will operate in loose-fitting mode. To activate tight-fitting mode
the Powered Air Turbo must be turned off and restarted with the TR-973
Airflow Indicator installed. Tight-fitting mode is indicated on the Powered
Air Turbo when the Facepiece icon is lit (see Fig 2).
The Powered Air Turbo is pre-calibrated to ensure the required airflow is
provided. It also compensates for changes in air density, which is affected
by elevation (height above sea level) and air temperature. Before use,
undertake airflow check using the airflow indicator tube as shown in Fig 3.
Insert the TR-973 Airflow Indicator into the outlet of the Powered Air
Turbo and switch on by pressing and holding the power button for 1
second. Allow the Powered Air Turbo to run for 1 minute to allow the
airflow to stabilise.
With the airflow check tube in the vertical position, ensure that the bottom
of the floating ball rests at, or above, the minimum flow mark for the 'letter'
representing your '
z
one' (see Fig 3). To determine your
z
one, you need to
know the elevation and temperature for the environment where you are
conducting the airflow check. Find the
z
one where your elevation and
temperature intersect on the chart shown in Fig 4.
Alarm Che
c
k
Perform alarm check as outlined in the TR-602E/TR-802E Powered Air
Turbo User Instructions.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Refer to the FM3/FM4 Facemask user instructions for assembly and
donning instructions for the facemask
Conne
c
ting and donning Powered Air Turbo
1. Insert the bottom end of the breathing tube into the outlet of the
Powered Air Turbo and turn the end of the breathing tube to ensure it is
fitted firmly.
2. Switch on the Powered Air Turbo by pressing the on button for 1
second. See TR-602E/TR-802E Powered Air Turbo User Instructions for
information to ensure the Powered Air Turbo is operating correctly.
Note:
The BT-54 Breathing tube must be connected to the
TR-602E/TR-802E Powered Air Turbo prior to powering on the Powered
Air Turbo in order to activate tight-fitting mode. If the Powered Air Turbo is
powered on prior to connecting the BT-54 Breathing Tube the Powered
Air Turbo will operate in loose-fitting mode. To activate tight-fitting mode
the Powered Air Turbo must be turned off and restarted with the BT-54
breathing tube installed. Tight-fitting mode is indicated on the Powered Air
Turbo when the Facepiece icon is lit (see Fig 2). Once the Powered Air
Turbo is running in tight-fitting mode it will remain in tight-fitting mode,
even if the breathing tube is removed, as long as the Powered Air Turbo
is not powered down. In tight-fitting mode, the Powered Air Turbo
operates at lower preset speeds designed to be more comfortable for the
Fullface/Half Mask wearer.
3. Adjust and buckle the waist belt with the Powered Air Turbo fitted
comfortably around your waist and ensure the breathing tube is not
twisted.
IN USE
Use in the power off state is not normal. However, redu
c
ed
prote
c
tion is provided to allow safe exit from the
c
ontaminated area.
Take care to prevent the breathing tube from becoming looped around
protruding objects
Refer to TR-602E/TR-802E Powered Air Turbo User Instructions for
further information.
CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Follow the cleaning procedures detailed in the User Instructions for
FM3/FM4 Facemask being used and the TR-602E/TR-802E Powered Air
Turbo.
The breathing tube can be cleaned with a clean cloth dampened with a
mild solution of water and liquid household soap. Do not use petrol,
chlorinated degreasing fluids (such as trichloroethylene), organic solvents
or abrasive cleaning agents to clean any part of the equipment.
