Chapter 11 Remote Management
ZyXEL NWA-3100 User’s Guide
124
11.1.1 Remote Management Limitations
Remote management does not work when:
1
You have not enabled that service on the interface in the corresponding remote
management screen.
2
The IP address in the
Secured Client IP
field does not match the client IP address. If it
does not match, the ZyXEL Device will disconnect the session immediately.
3
There is already another remote management session with an equal or higher priority
running. You may only have one remote management session running at one time.
4
A filter is applied (through the SMT or the commands) to block a Telnet, FTP or Web
service.
11.1.2 System Timeout
There is a default system management idle timeout of five minutes (three hundred seconds).
The ZyXEL Device automatically logs you out if the management session remains idle for
longer than this timeout period. The management session does not time out when a statistics
screen is polling. You can change the timeout period in the
System
screen
11.2 SSH
You can use SSH (Secure SHell) to securely access the ZyXEL Device’s SMT or command
line interface. Specify which interfaces allow SSH access and from which IP address the
access can come.
SSH is a secure communication protocol that combines authentication and data encryption to
provide secure encrypted communication between two hosts over an unsecured network. In
the following figure, computer
A
on the Internet uses SSH to securely connect to the ZyXEL
Device for a management session.

11.3 Telnet
You can use Telnet to access the ZyXEL Device’s SMT or command line interface. Specify
which interfaces allow Telnet access and from which IP address the access can come.
