8.2 Connections
This section provides more information about the connections to each port on the MS-7206.
8.2.1 MGMT Port
This Ethernet connection has the following characteristics:
• 10/100 Mbps.
• Auto-negotiating. The port can detect and adjust to the optimum Ethernet speed and
duplex mode (full duplex or half duplex) of the connected device.
• Auto-crossover or auto-MDI/MDI-X. The port automatically works with a straight-
through or crossover Ethernet cable.
8.2.2 CONSOLE Port
For local management through the command line interface (CLI), use a computer with
terminal emulation software configured to the following parameters:
• VT100 terminal emulation
• 9600 bps
• No parity, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit
• No flow control
Connect the male 9-pin end of the console cable to the
CONSOLE
port of the MS-7206.
Connect the female end to a serial port (COM1, COM2 or other COM port) of your computer.
8.2.3 Gigabit Ethernet Ports
The RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet are 100/1000 Mbps auto-negotiating, and auto-crossover. The
connection speed can be 100 Mbps or 1000 Mbps and the duplex mode can be half duplex (for
100 Mbps) or full duplex.
An auto-negotiating port can detect and adjust to the optimum Ethernet speed and duplex
mode (full duplex or half duplex) of the connected device.
An auto-crossover (auto-MDI/MDI-X) port automatically works with a straight-through or
crossover Ethernet cable.
MI-7248PWR (PoE Interface Module)
1~48
Use the following copper Ethernet cables to connect these electrical Ethernet interfaces
to PoE-Enabled devices (like some Access Points). See
for
more details on these ports.
100Base-Tx 4-pair UTP Cat. 5e, up to 100m
Connector: RJ-45
For better performance and lower radiation noise, use shielded Ethernet cables.
