RIDING

SAFELY

General Rules

x

Always wear an approved helmet when riding your scooter, and follow the helmet
manufacturer's instructions for fit, use and care of your helmet.

x

When riding, obey the same road traffic rules as all other road vehicles, including giving way to

pedestrians, and stopping at red lights, stop signs and pedestrian crossings.

x

Ride predictably and in a straight line. Never ride against traffic. Ride defensively. To other road

users, you may be hard to see. Use correct signal lights to indicate turning or stopping.

x

Concentrate on the path ahead. Avoid potholes, gravel, wet road markings, oil, curbs, speed

bumps, drain grates and other obstacles.

x

Expect the unexpected such as opening car doors or cars backing out of concealed driveways.

Be extra careful at intersections and when preparing to pass other vehicles.

x

Familiarise yourself with all the scooter's features. Practice signal lights, braking and the use of

horns.

x

Don't carry packages or passengers that will interfere with your visibility or control of the scooter.

Don't use items that may restrict your hearing.

x

Maintain a comfortable stopping distance from all other riders, vehicles and objects. Safe

braking distance and forces are subject to the prevailing weather conditions.

x

Please ride slow when road conditions are bad.

x

Please do not exceed the loading capacity. This will affect the driving distance.

Wet Weather

x

In wet weather you need to take extra care.

x

Brake earlier, you will take a longer distance to stop.

x

Decrease your riding speed, avoid sudden braking, and take corners with additional caution.

x

Be more visible on the road.

x

Wear light reflective clothing and use safety lights.

x

Potholes and slippery surfaces such as line markings and train tracks become more hazardous

when wet.

Night Riding

x

Ensure that the front lights are on as per manufacturer set up.

x

Wear light reflective and light coloured clothing.

Slow down and use familiar roads with street lighting, if possible.
