1. Introduction
Dear Customer
In order to ensure that error and possibly accidents are prevented in connection with the
handling of the machine, it is strictly required to
thoroughly and carefully read these
operating instructions prior to the initial commissioning.
The Dosing Unit PKT 450 serves for the dosing of propionic acid which, for instance, is
marketed under the brand names Luprosil

, Lupro-Grain

and Luprosil NC

by the BASF
AG based in Ludwigshafen.
Please keep in mind that the measuring tube is calibrated for Luprosil

or similar
media. For Lupro-Grain

and Luprosil NC

, the value presented at the flow rate
measuring tube is not identical with the displayed quantity, as these media feature a
temperature-dependant viscosity (see Section 7 f).
The use of corrosive agents is principally prohibited.
The device is also suited for the deployment of media to counter parasite beetles (corn
weevils) in so far as these media are not added an adhesive agent.
2. The Prevention of Accidents and Damage
Luprosil

is an organic acid which, in undiluted form, has a corrosive effect upon the skin
and mucosa. For this reason, when handling this product, the protective measures usual for
the handling of strong acids must be observed. It is strictly necessary to wear
safety goggles
and protective rubber gloves ! Should any skin come in contact with Luprosil

, the affected
areas must be immediately rinsed with plenty of water. This all the more applies to formic
acid which is considerably more aggressive and can lead to painful corrosion of the skin.
Particular must be taken when handling the spray nozzles. When handling with the pressure
hoses, acid can easily come in contact with the eyes or the skin, if is not performed with
utmost care.
For this reason, also take great care that the nozzles are well fastened to the worm, so that
they can not loosen by themselves.
Should Luprosil

(or formic acid) come in contact with the skin or the eyes,
immediately thoroughly rinse the same with clear water. In case the eyes are injured,
immediately contact a doctor!
When treating grain in enclosed spaces, respectively at the filling of grain stores, threshing
floors, or into silos, the subsequently generated strong smell of Luprosil

can possibly lead to
an irritation of the respectively deployed personnel. For this reason, good venting must be
ensured for the duration of the filling process. The unpleasant odour will for the most part
disappear several minutes after the Luprosil

treatment, respectively after the filling process.
The specified temperatures for the stored grain quantities must be complied with.
