The KEL ribbon cable between the HE2K-DCK-1X and the FCB-EV7520 block camera is the only connection
necessary between the camera and the encoder. The KEL ribbon cable provides the following
connectivity:

Power from the encoder to the camera
▪
Video from the camera to the encoder
▪
Sony VISCA™ controls, bidirectional, using a serial port
This connector provides a direct connection with the Sony FCB-EV7520A (or equivalent) block camera.
Make
sure to use the KEL ribbon cable provided or approved by Z3 Technology
. Using a cable with the wrong
configuration or connecting the encoder to the wrong camera type
WILL
cause permanent damage to the
camera and/or encoder. Please connect to CN401 (digital I/O) on the Sony EV7520A camera block.
IMPORTANT:
If you are planning to use a camera block other than the Sony FCB-EV7520A please make sure that the
camera is compatible at the connector level. There are various different pin assignments and/or operating
requirements on camera blocks other than the FCB-EV7520A - even blocks by Sony. Connecting an
incompatible camera is likely to cause permanent physical damage to the camera, the encoder or more
likely both camera and encoder. In particular, pay attention to the location of the power pins on the
camera.
Also, when connecting a KEL cable to the camera or encoder, make sure that the pin contacts on the cable
are facing up, away from the PCB. Inserting the plug upside down will cause damage to the plug and to the
socket.
The pin assignments of J7 are shown in the table below.
Please note that the pin numbering of J7 on the Interface Front End PCB is
opposite
of that on the Sony
FCB-EV7520 camera, so that it provides a straight through pass. Please only use with a KEL cable provided by
