Phenomenon

Analysis and Solution

Indoor unit fan
stops for about
10 minutes while
outdoor unit is
still in operation
at heating mode.

You may hear the
craking sounds.

You may hear the
sound like running
water.

You may hear"POOSH"
sound and "CLICK"
sound.

You may smell some
odor blowing out of
the air that
air-conditioner.

Condensate found
in outdoor unit
drain pan.

It may be defrosting the outdoor unit coil.

This process should complete in about
10 minutes at most (it freezes when
outdoor temperature is low and humidity
   is high).

Friction sounds could be caused by expansion

and contraction of front panel due to temperature
changes at unit startup or shutdown.

During cooling, condensate from pipes or coils

    accumulated.

During heating, condensate at heat-exchanger

    coil drips.

During heating, at defrosting, melt ice builds up

    condensate.

Odors from the filter or coil (dust, moisture,

    fungi, mold

). Need to clean filter.

Heater is clicked on. Don't need to be worried

    about.

If abnormal, need to check the unit.

POOSH

 sound of refrigerant flow change

when cooling or heating mode is finished.

Click

sound of fan or compressor when

     contactors being engaged.

Sound of running refrigerant in air-conditioner

due to its expansion or flowing.

Sound of accumulated condensate dripping

from the heat-exchanger to dain pan.

Melting sounds of frost on heat-exchanger.
