a. Install the starter clutch and starter clutch
gear “1” onto the generator rotor “2” and hold
the generator rotor. Refer to “INSTALLING
THE STARTER CLUTCH” on page 5-43.
b. When turning the starter clutch gear clock-
wise “A”, the starter clutch and the starter
clutch gear should engage, otherwise the
starter clutch is faulty and must be replaced.
c. When turning the starter clutch gear counter-
clockwise “B”, it should turn freely, otherwise
the starter clutch is faulty and must be re-
placed.

INSTALLING THE STARTER CLUTCH
1. Assemble:
• Starter clutch rollers “1”
• Starter clutch inner race “2”
(to the starter clutch outer race “3”)
TIP
When installing the starter clutch rollers and
starter clutch inner race to the starter clutch out-
er race, make sure that the springs “a” are point-
ing in the direction shown in the illustration.
2. Install:
• Starter clutch “1”
• Starter clutch gear
(to the generator rotor “2”)
TIP
• Install the starter clutch so that the side of the
clutch shown in the illustration is facing toward
the generator rotor.
• While holding the generator rotor with the rotor
holding tool “3”, tighten the starter clutch bolts
“4”.
