TIP
This model is equipped with:
t
a lean angle sensor to stop the en-
gine in case of a turnover. In this
case, the engine trouble warning
light will come on, but this is not a
malfunction. Turn the key to
“OFF” and then to “ON” to turn off
the warning light. Failing to do so
will prevent the engine from start-
ing even though the engine will
crank when pushing the start
switch.
t
an engine auto-stop system. The
engine stops automatically if left
idling for 20 minutes. If the engine
stops, simply push the start
switch to restart the engine.
To start the engine
1. Turn the main switch to “ON”, and
set the engine stop switch to“run”.
TIP
Do not start, if the engine trouble warning
light and the oil pressure light is on.

Starting the engine
In order for the starting circuit cut-off
system to enable starting, one of the
following conditions must be met:
t
The transmission is in the neutral
position.
t
The transmission is in gear with
the clutch lever pulled.
2. The engine trouble warning light
should come on for a few seconds,
then go off. (See page 4-2)
If the warning light does not go off,
have a Yamaha dealer check its
electrical circuit.
3. Shift the transmission into the
neutral position.
4. Start the engine by sliding to the
stop/start switch
5. Release the start/stop switch when
the engine start or of 5 seconds.
Wait for 10 second before trying again.
NOTICE
For maximum engine life, never ac-
celerate hard when the engine is
cold!
