ABS (Anti-lock Brake System)

Fault code No. 21
2 Open or short circuit in the wire harness
between the rear wheel sensor and the
hydraulic unit assembly
•
Check for continuity between the white terminal “1”
and the white terminal “4” and between the black ter-
minal “2” and the black terminal “5”.
•
If there is no continuity, the wire harness is defective.
Replace the wire harness.
•
Check that there is no short circuit between the white
terminal “1” and the black terminal “2” and between
the white terminal “4” and the black terminal “5”.
•
If there is short circuit, the wire harness is defective.
Replace the wire harness.
•
Check that there is no short circuit between the
black/white terminal “3” and the white terminal “4” and
between the black/white terminal “3” and the black ter-
minal “5”.
•
If there is short circuit, the wire harness is defective.
Replace the wire harness.
6. ABS ECU
7. Wheel sensor
3 Defective rear wheel sensor or hydraulic
unit assembly
If the above items were performed and no malfunctions
were found, the wheel sensor or hydraulic unit assembly
is defective. Replace the wheel sensor or hydraulic unit
assembly.

lock Brake System)” on page 4-65.

Item Hydraulic unit assembly (defective solenoid drive circuit)
Symptom
Solenoid drive circuit in the hydraulic unit assembly is open or
short-circuited.
Order Item/components and probable cause Check or maintenance job
1 Defective hydraulic unit assembly Replace the hydraulic unit assembly.
Refer to “ABS (Anti-lock Brake System)” on page 4-65.

Item Rear wheel sensor (open or short circuit)
Symptom Open or short circuit is detected in the rear wheel sensor.
