Troubleshooting
In addition to the following, you can also find troubleshooting tips in the Reference Manual
(PDF). See page 79 for details on downloading this manual.
No sound is produced when a pad is struck or the vol-
ume is lower than expected.

Check connections as follows.
• Ens u re that the pads are properly connected to the dr u m
mod u le’s trigger inp u t jacks.
• Ens u re that the dr u m mod u le is properly connected to head-
phones or other a u dio eq u ipment, s u ch as an amplifier and/
or speakers.
• Ens u re that the amplifier and/or speakers connected to the
dr u m mod u le are t u rned on and are not set to the lo w est pos-
si b le v ol u me.
• If yo u are u sing a KP65 Kick Pad, try adj u sting its Le v el dial.
• Ens u re that the ca b les yo u are u sing are in good condition.

Check the drum module’s settings as follows.
• Ens u re that v ol u mes are set appropriately. (See pages 15,
19, 24, and 59.)
• Ens u re that the v oice for the pad yo u are striking is not set to
“No Assign”. No so u nd is prod u ced w ith this setting. (See
pages 21 and 59.)
• Ens u re that the parameter on the Decay page (KitV6) from
Men u Mode is set appropriately. (See page 59.)
• Ens u re that the parameter on the C u toff Freq u ency page
(KitV7) from Men u Mode is set appropriately. (See page 59.)
• Ens u re that the parameter on the Pad F u nction page (Pad3)
from Men u Mode is set appropriately. (See page 66.)
• Ens u re that the parameter on the Velocity C u r v e page
(TRG2) from Men u Mode is set appropriately. (See page 67.)
• Ens u re that the parameter on the Pad Type page (TRG3)
from Men u Mode is set appropriately. (See page 68.)
• Ens u re that the parameter on the Gain page (TRG4) from
Men u Mode is set appropriately. (See page 68.)
• Ens u re that the parameter on the Minim u m Le v el page
(TRG5) from Men u Mode is set appropriately. (See page 68.)
• Ens u re that the parameter on the Crosstalk page (TRG10)
from Men u Mode is set appropriately. (See page 70.)
• Ens u re that the parameter on the Local Control page
(System5) from Men u Mode is set appropriately. (See page
74.)

If you cannot play foot closed hi-hat sounds, try the fol-
lowing.
• Ens u re that yo u are operating the hi-hat controller in a firm
and f u ll manner.
• Ens u re that the parameter on the Do ub le Bass S w itch page
(KitC1) from Men u Mode is set to “off”. (See page 61.)
• Lo w er the setting of the parameter on the Foot Close Position
page (Pad2) from Men u Mode. (See page 65.)

If edge and cup sounds cannot be played or the choking
technique does not work when using a cymbal pad, try the
following.
• Ens u re that the parameter on the Pad Type page (TRG3)
from Men u Mode is set appropriately. (See page 68.)
• If u sing a PCY100 Cym b al Pad as the hi-hat, ens u re that the
c u p s w itch (CUP SW) on the rear of the pad is set to the ON
position in order to play c u p so u nds. (See page 17.)
Sounds or volumes are not as expected.

If hi-hat splash sounds are not produced as expected, try
the following.
• Adj u st the parameter setting on the Hi-hat Hi-hat Splash Sen-
siti v ity page (Pad1) from Men u Mode. (See page 65.)

If it is difficult to produce closed hi-hat sounds, try the fol-
lowing.
• Adj u st the parameter setting on the Foot Close Position page
(Pad2) from Men u Mode. (See page 65.)

If it is difficult to produce quieter hi-hat sounds, try the fol-
lowing.
• Check w hether the parameter on the Do ub le Bass S w itch
page (KitC1) is set to “on”. In certain cases, this setting can
make it more diffic
u lt to prod u ce q u ieter hi-hat so u nds. (See
page 61.)

If sounds cannot be produced as expected when playing
the pads connected to the [

] trigger input jack, try the
following.
• Check w hether yo u ha v e connected a t w o- or three-zone pad
to the jack in q u estion. In certain sit u ations, this can res u lt in
u nexpected so u nds b eing prod u ced. If this is the case, set
the parameter on the Pad Type page (TRG3) from Men u
Mode to “off”. (See page 68.)

If sounds are distorted, try the following.
• Lo w er the dr u m mod u le’s master v ol u me. (See page 15.)

If voices play endlessly and do not stop, try the following.
• Press the [KIT] bu tton se v eral times to silence all v oices.

If pads are producing only sounds at very high volumes
(i.e., high velocities), try the following.
• Adj u st the sensiti v ity of the dr u m mod u le’s kits. (See page 19.)
• Adj u st the parameter on the Velocity C u r v e page (TRG2)
from Men u Mode. (See page 67.)
• Adj u st the parameter on the Gain page (TRG4) from Men u
Mode. High settings w ill res u lt in lo u d dr u m so u nds. (See
page 68.)
• Ens u re that yo u are u sing only the recommended Yamaha
pads. (Prod u cts from other man u fact u rers can o u tp u t exces-
si v ely large signals.)

If the volumes of sounds produced by different pads are
poorly balanced, try the following.
• Adj u st the v ol u mes of the v ario u s inp u t gro u ps on the Mixer
page (MIXER) from Men u Mode. (See page 57.)
• Adj u st the v ol u mes of indi v id u al inp u t so u rces on the Vol u me
page (KitV3) from Men u Mode. (See page 59.)

If reverb cannot be applied, try the following.
• Ens u re that the re v er b le v el on the Mixer page (MIXER) from
Men u Mode is not set too lo w . (See page 57.)
• Ens u re that the parameter on the Re v er b Send (So u rce) page
(KitV11) from Men u Mode is set appropriately. (See page 60.)
• Ens u re that the parameter on the Re v er b Send (Voices) page
(KitC2) from Men u Mode is set appropriately. (See page 61.)
• Ens u re that the parameter on the Re v er b Type page (KitC3)
from Men u Mode is set appropriately. (See page 62.)
• Ens u re that the parameter on the Re v er b Ret u rn page
(KitC4) from Men u Mode is set appropriately. (See page 62.)

If the drum module’s volume is not well balanced with that
of the device connected to the [AUX IN] jack (such as a
portable music player), try the following.
• Ens u re that the v ol u me of the connected de v ice is set to a
s u ita b le le v el. (See page 12.)

If the volume of your drumming is not well balanced with
that of a drum-module song, try the following.
• Adj u st the song v ol u me. (See page 26.)
