Point Detectors
Ensure that the selected detectors have sufficient sensitivity for the application. See Section 5:
for further details of how dilution affects detector sensitivity.
If the installation is to be done in accordance with AS 1603.8 under the ActivFire scheme, then the detector
must have been tested for use in the system. Please refer to the list of approved detectors in Section 9:
.
4.1
Baffles
Due to the large variation in the sizes and shapes of point detectors it is necessary to fit baffles to the IAS-2
system to ensure that the sampled air flow is directed toward the detector. Each baffle is shaped to match a
particular model/range of detectors and simply clips into position in the slots provided in the transparent lid.
Please contact your local Xtralis ICAM distributor for ordering information.
4.2
Detector Installation
A pair of conventional or analog addressable point detectors are mounted on the display/mounting board using
the screws provided.
Addressable loop or conventional circuit wiring can be connected to the point(s) with either of two methods:
l
the wiring can be connected to the LOOP IN and LOOP OUT terminals on the main circuit board (refer
to Figure 3-1). Additionally, the terminals on the point(s) must be connected to the detector terminals
located in the center of the point mounts on the mounting board. This is the preferred method. Refer to
Section 4.3.3:
Configuration with Units Connected in Series
for further information.
l
the wiring can be connected directly to terminals on the point. It should be routed via the cutouts in the
mounting board. Refer to Section 4.3.1:
Configuration with two Addressable Detectors
for further
information.
l
the wiring can be connected directly to terminals on the point. It should be routed via the cutouts in the
mounting board.
Note:
The LOOP IN and LOOP OUT terminals are linked and the local detector terminals on the
display/mounting board are connected to these terminals via the ribbon cable.
4.3
Wiring Examples
The following examples show typical installations for conventional and analog addressable detectors. Please
ensure that all wiring complies with manufacturer's instructions and local and national fire detection code
requirements.
