XS Scuba Valves Service Manual
WARNING: Never install a scuba valve into a
scuba cylinder that does not have a dip tube.
Installing dip tubes is accomplished with a 5/32” hex
wrench.
1. Insert the dip tube hand tight.
2. Insert a 5/32” hex adapter attached to a torque
wrench. Tighten the dip tube to a torque of 40 lbs*in
(46 kg*cm) (4.5 N*m).
Safety Handwheel
One of the features that make XS Scuba Valves so popular
is the Safety Handwheel. It is an excellent visual indicator
for you, your buddy, the divemaster, or your instructor, that
your valve is fully opened.
WARNING: This Safety Handwheel is designed
for use on XS Scuba brand valves only. It does not
work on Thermo branded valves. It is not designed
for use on any other manufacturer’s valves. It
provides a positive visual indicator that the valve is in
the fully open position prior to diving.
Installation is simple if you follow these easy steps:
1.Make certain that the valve is turned off.
i. Temporarily install the black handwheel(22)
and turn the valve off until lightly snug.
2. Install the handwheel washer(11) over the stem.
3. Place the green sleeve(20) over the bonnet(10).
4. Thread the red sleeve on to the green sleeve.
i. Stop when the red sleeve completely covers
the green sleeve.
CAUTION: Do not thread the red sleeve on
backwards. Look at the image. The open channels
face upward.
5. While holding the red sleeve stationary, install the
handwheel(22) so that the inner ribs of the handwheel(22)
engage the slots on the red sleeve.
