14. Results
A. If, after performing all the steps outlined above, no
leaks or irregularities are found, the valve passes and
may go back into service.
B. If any leaks or irregularities are found, use the
Troubleshooting Guide to go back and make the
necessary repairs until the valve passes all the tests.
Final Assembly
15. Install the Safety Handwheel Assembly
WARNING: The Safety Handwheel is
designed for use on XS Scuba branded valves only.
It does not work on Thermo branded valves. It is
not designed for use on any other manufacturer’s
valves. It provides a positive visual indicator that
the valve is in the fully open position prior to diving.
A. Make certain that the valve is turned off.
i. Temporarily install the black handwheel(22)
and turn the valve off until lightly snug.
B. Install the handwheel washer(11) over
the stem.
C. Place the green sleeve(20) over the bonnet(10),
engaging the hex cutout over the bonnet nut.
D. Thread the red sleeve on to the green sleeve.
i. Stop when the red sleeve completely covers
the green sleeve.
E. While holding the red sleeve stationary,
install the handwheel(22) so that the inner
ribs of the handwheel(22) engage the slots on
the red sleeve.
If air leaks here, check
stem o-ring(8).
If air leaks here,
check safety
assembly(1)
torque.
If air leaks here, bonnet o-ring(17)
or bonnet(10) torque.
The open ends of the red slots
face upward so that the ribs on
the handwheel will engage them.
Thread on the
red sleeve until
the bottom
edge just
covers the
green sleeve.
