Please pay more attention on inspection of steel wire ropes. Only qualified
person should carry out the wire rope inspection and the full length of the
wire rope have to be checked.
(12)
Use either electromagnetic equipment or visual and physical checking to
inspect the wire rope.
(13)
The rope should be replaced when
(i)
Three or more broken wires are found in close proximity of the
termination.
(ii)
Three or more broken wires are found in one strand or
(iii)
Five broken wires are found between two adjacent strands within a
length of 30mm.
(iv)
The diameter of the wire rope is reduced by 90% of the nominal
diameter 3mm. (i.e. if the rope diameter is reduced to
2.7mm
, the rope
should be replaced with the new one)
(14)
After replacing new wire ropes, the sheaves and drums shall be checked for
eccentricity and the bearing for wear and free running before operation.
Please check the steel cable is sitting well inside the grooves of the drums
and cable timber hitch and securely fastened to the I-bolts
