Print Server / Controller
Xerox® FreeFlow Print® Server Option
This section provides information about the capabilities and potential
limitations of the FreeFlow Print Server when connected to the Press.
This chart is a guide to the print server's hardware specifications matched
to the print engine. Minor hardware variations within the model may occur
as upgrades take place in the manufacturing process. Any difference in the
delivered product will provide functional equivalence to the performance
and features as described herein.
Surge Protection
Xerox recommends using a surge protector with the Print Server that is
rated at the line current. For example, in a 60 Hz FreeFlow Print Server
installation, one 15 A surge protector is required for the monitor and Print
Server.

Space Requirements
Refer to
Space Requirements/Service Space Envelope
for space Refer to
Space Requirements/Service Space Envelope
for specific information that
is required around the system in its various configurations.
Include the following information when calculating the space required for
the customer's installation:
To
enable a Xerox Service Representative to safely repair the system, the
work area must measure at least 36 inches (91.44 cm) square around
the server.
The work surface of the print server must not infringe on the space
requirements by the print engine and any attached accessories unless
the work surface is a table that has wheels and can easily be moved.
There must be a minimum of 78 inches (198.12 cm) clearance from the
floor to the nearest overhead obstructions.
All standard Xerox space requirements apply to this installation
including overhead, shared, aisle or hallway, and operator space. The
customer is responsible to provide appropriate floor spacing and
placement surface.
Storage and future availability of software that ships with the color
server is a customer responsibility. Xerox personnel do not carry
replacement materials.
Power cords for the Print Servers are approximately 7.5 feet (2.3 meters).

Running Antivirus Software
While installing anti-virus software is not prohibited, Xerox has not tested
anti-virus applications for the Sun/Solaris Operating System with the
FreeFlow Print Server, their effectiveness or possible impact to productivity
and reliability. The Solaris 10 Operating System is one of the most secure
operating system earning the Common Criteria Certification of security
assurance, rated at EAL 4+. Oracle/Sun is constantly evaluating security
vulnerability research reports and releasing patches quickly to ensure
Solaris remains secure from attackers. Of note there are few commercial
Anti-virus products available for Solaris.
The few Anti-virus software products that are available for Solaris typically
focus on detecting Microsoft-targeted viruses that are received via email.
The FreeFlow Print Server has disabled Email services by default. Therefore,
software that protects against incoming mail viruses is not required. The
server also does not send email by default, and thus is not a source of virus
propagation. To effectively stop the spread of virus software that might
conceivably be introduced into the print server via removable media or USB
drives, the System Administrator may disable these points of access.
