ISE User Guide
Initialize and Configure
From the Initial Spare Configuration view, the following options are available:
a. Initialize the ISE and the storage pools.
b. Update the ISE firmware. This option is used by a network administrator installing a new ISE and must
upgrade the firmware to the latest version before any configuration of that ISE. See “MRC Firmware
Upgrade” on page 129 for details on the upgrade process.
Initialize Storage Pools
The Initialize
Storage Pools
option would likely be used by a storage manager configuring the ISE for use on
this site. See “Storage Pools and Volumes” on page 55 for details on the set-up of storage pools and see
“Configuring Storage” on page 55 for an overview of the concept of ISE storage pools,.
While navigation away from the Initial Spare Configuration page (Figure 35) is disabled, click the browser’s
Back
button to return to the

To initialize storage pools, perform the following steps:
1. On the Initial Spare Configuration page (Figure 35 on page 43), click
SUBMIT
to initialize storage pools and
sparing on the DataPacs.
2. Click
OK
to the confirmation message

The message disappears and the Initial Spare Configuration view continues to display the message
Sys-
tem initializing. Please wait...
.
3. Wait while the storage pools are initialized.
This process can take several minutes, during which the Initial Spare Configuration view remains dis-
played.
When pool initialization is complete, the ISE At-A-Glance Status Summary view appears and the Current
Status in the upper right-hand area of the view reports
Current Status: Operational
.
4. Select
Environment

DataPac
to confirm that the sparing percentage of 20% is in effect on an initialized
system (see “DataPac Detailed” on page 113).
Update ISE Firmware
After ISE initialization, MRC firmware updates are applied as detailed in “ISE Firmware Upgrades” on
page 129. To update MRC firmware prior to system initialization, perform the following steps:
