Adjusting The Boom
The Wylie 8420 boom was manufactured to exacting
specifications and should not need adjustment initially. It
may become necessary, however, during the life of the
boom to make adjustments to the folding/unfolding cycle.
Factory setting dimensions are provided on page 16 as a
basic reference point.
Fold/Unfold Adjustment
The boom should be adjusted so that it is straight when
completely unfolded. Both sides of the boom should also
close uniformly when folded. These two conditions are con
-
trolled by the combined adjustment of the folding cylinder
clevis and turnbuckles on the primary wings.
The most important setting is that the boom be straight
when completely unfolded. Always adjust the primary wing
first, then straighten the secondary wing.

Wing Adjustment Points
1. If the primary wing needs to fold out more, remove the
pin from the rod end of the folding cylinder and lengthen
the cylinder clevis. If the primary wing needs to be drawn in,
shorten the cylinder clevis. The primary wing should align
with the center section. Re-install the cylinder pin.
2. If the secondary wing needs to fold out more, lengthen
the back tie rod and shorten the front tie rod.
Note: Both
the front and back tie rods must be adjusted uniformly.
The amount that is shortened on one tie rod must be
lengthened on the other.
If the secondary wing needs to
be drawn in, shorten the back tie rod and lengthen the front
tie rod. Align the secondary wing with the primary wing
and center section. Tighten the jam nuts on the secondary
wing tie rods.
