•
Measure sample volume (fill the measuring
beaker completely) and pour into one of
the light-proof sample bottles.
•
Put a magnetic stirring rod into each filled
sample bottle.
•
Insert a rubber quiver into each bottle neck
and put 1 or 2 sodium hydroxide tablets
into the quiver with tweezers.
•
Put on closing cap but do not yet screw
tight.
•
Connect line adaptor to mains and to the
instrument.
•
Close incubator; for temperature
adjustment (20°C) stirr for approx. 1 hour.
•
Close the caps of the sample bottles and
storage beakers airtight.
•
Align zero point of the scale with meniscus
of the mercury column.
•
Note date and time in the data form sheet.
•
Every day read the values and note them
in the diagram note block. At the end of the
measurement (usually after 5 days) read
scale value and multiply with the
conversion factor.The result corresponds
to the oxygen consumption in mg/l.
•
After measurement screw the closing caps off the sample bottles and loosen
the caps of the mercury storage beakers.
•
Rinse rubber quiver, sample bottles and magnetic stirring rods only with warm
water, before measurement rinse them with sample.
Note Add reagents for sample preparation to the sample before measuring
the sample volume. With volume additions of more than 5 ml per liter
take the created dilutions into account for your result.
Close the mercury storage beaker with the bottle cap if it is not used
for a longer time.
Interferences
•
The scale shows zero or too low a value.
The measuring equipment is not airtight.
Check rubber quiver, screw top and hose connection.
•
Measured value below zero.
The temperature of the sample had not been sufficiently adjusted (< 20°C).
•
Measuring range exceeded.
The measuring range chosen was too small. With very high values > 4000 mg/l
dilute the sample.
Errors due to procedure have not been mentioned.
