APPENDIX

Using USB Drives

The Mason  is primarily designed to play files  located on  network  servers,  but  it
can also play  files from locally  connected USB drives. This is ideal  for  situations
where you need a

ʻ

standalone

ʼ

 player.

You  can  connect  external  USB hard drives  or  flash  drives to the  Mason

ʼ

s  USB

ports.

The drive must be formatted in Windows format (MS-DOS/FAT32). If you are us-
ing a  Mac, you  can  check  the format  by connecting it  to your  Mac,  selecting the
USB  drive

ʼ

s  icon  and choosing

ʻ

Get  Info

ʼ

from  the File menu.  If  it  is  not  in  MS-

DOS format, use the Apple Disk Utility tool to reformat it.

We  recommend  using  USB  drives  which  have  their  own  power  sup-
plies, rather than drives which draw their power from the USB port.
