Water Heater
4.10 Assessment and replacement of electric element AK1225, AK1224
The failure of the electric element will be noted by the lack of hot water when operating the Water
Heater in the electric mode or in increase heat up times in the combined mode. The fault can
establish itself in two ways:
- no hot water available and Water Heater Control Panel indicates overheat fault
- no hot water available and no fault indicated
To assess which of the faults occurred and to take the correct action, please follow the steps
outlined in Figure 18.
Figure 18
–
Electric element assessment and replacement procedure
- unplug spark electrode from PCB at
connection J7
- replace spark electrode as shown
- ensure spark electrode is secure in
ceramic
–
if loose, replace.
- secure with self-tapping screw
included
- before securing the spark electrode
cable to the gas pipe, ensure the
plastic sleeve is pulled towards the
spark electrode to avoid arcing with
adjacent metal components
- secure cable to gas pipe using
cables ties included
- plug electrode cable into PCB
–
J7
- re-assemble the insulation and
front cover
- recommission system (see 4.12)

! Ensure 230V supply is isolated before commencing work on the product.
No hot water available and Water Heater Control Panel
indicates overheat fault:
- this fault indicates that the electric element is still operating but
could be heavily contaminated with lime scale build up
❶
allow Water Heater element to cool.
❷
descale Water Heater using a suitable descaling
product.
❸
clear lockout on Control Panel.
❹
then attempt to heat water.
Should the fault persist, please check the mains
connections as shown.
No hot water available and no fault indicated on Water
Heater Control Panel:
- this fault indicates that the electric element is either not
connected correctly or faulty and does no longer operate
- remove cover as shown in Chapter 4.6
1
Confirm mains cable connections are as shown.
2
Confirm PCB to electric element connections are
as shown.
