The oil level must be within the area marked on the
dipstick.
Park the car on a level surface, switch off the
engine and wait 10-15 minutes to allow the oil
time to run back to the sump. For capacities,
see page 301 and onwards.
Checking with a cold engine
1.
Wipe the dipstick clean.
2.
Check the level using the dipstick. It must
be between the
MIN
and
MAX
marks.
3.
If the level is close to the
MIN
mark, start
by topping up with 0.5 litres of oil. Top up
until the level is nearer to
MAX
than
MIN
on the dipstick.
IMPORTANT
Never fill above the
MAX
mark. Oil con-
sumption may increase if too much oil is
poured into the engine.
WARNING
Do not spill oil onto the hot exhaust manifold
due to the risk of fire.
Checking with a warm engine
1.
Park the car on a level surface, switch off
the engine and wait 10 - 15 minutes to
allow the oil time to run back to the sump.
2.
Wipe the dipstick clean.
3.
Check the oil level using the dipstick.
4.
If the level is close to the
MIN
mark, start
by topping up with 0.5 litres of oil. Top up
until the level is nearer to
MAX
than
MIN
on the dipstick.
For engines with electronic dipstick

The oil level is checked using the electronic oil
level gauge with the thumbwheel when the
engine is switched off, see page 134.

NOTE
The oil level is only updated by the system
during driving. The system cannot detect
changes when oil is filled or drained.
If engine oil is filled or drained then the car
must be driven about 30 km before the oil
level is measured correctly.
