The charger is inherently short-circuit-proof.

The charger may be operated only at an ambient temperature of from
0 to 40 degrees Celsius.
Never turn on the device immediately after it has been brought from a
cold room into a warm room. Condensation water that forms might
destroy your device under unfavourable conditions. Leave the device
switched off and wait until it has reached room temperature.

Take care of sufficient ventilation when the device is in operation.
Never cover the ventilation slots disposed at the front and back of the
casing. Do not place the device on a tablecloth and never on the car-
pet. Place the device on a hard substrate which is hardly inflammable.
The device is cooled by the fan which is installed an is turned in while
the device is being charged or discharged. When in operation, the
device should be sufficiently spaced from the wall or another obstacle
in order not to endanger air circulation.

As soon as any accumulator connected is charged or discharged,
which can be seen from the charging or discharge current "I" when
then flows in the display, the fan has to turn on. The fan can be clearly
heard when turned on. If it does not run switch the charger off imme-
diately and safeguard it against inadvertent use.

Leading accumulator manufacturers recommend that the ambient
temperature should be abt. 20 °C during the charging operation. In
addition, do not expose the device to direct solar radiation.

Note that the individual cells have to be soldered to or welded on each
other. To charge the accumulator pack, connect it to the charger by
means of cables as short as possible. The maximum length of the
connecting cables should not exceed 1.5 m and should have a cross-
section of at least 1.0 mm2. Do not use battery holders with springs or
rivets because the plastic material could melt because of the maxi-
mum current. Apart from having good contacts, it is important for the
accumulator to be directly accessible; a damping diode may not be
installed in the accumulator pack because this will make it impossible
the accumulator pack.

This charger employs a novel charging technique which is supposed
to prevent the memory effect and ensure a 100 % charging of the
accumulator.
For a smooth operation of the device, therefore, it is definitely neces-
sary to use solely the accessories which are recommended for recei-
ving the accumulators.

7. SPECIFICATIONS

The present charger exclusively serves for charging nickel/cadmium and
nickel/metal hydride accumulator packs which are composed of accumulators of the
Mono, Baby, SUC-C, and Mignon sizes. Accumulator packs may comprise from 1 to
20 ells. The rated capacity of these accumulator types (as indicated in mAh or Ah)
should range from 500 mAh to 20 Ah.

8. Survey

Contrast regulator
The readout angle of the display depends upon the location of the charger. The
"CONTRAST" regulator is capable of adjusting an easy-to-read script depending on
the angle of view when the charger position is elevated or lowered.

Procedure
Connect the accumulator pack to the terminals. If the accumulator is not identified
automatically check its polarity; start REFESH, for the rest.
Then, set all parameters, using the two SELECT keys, and acknowledge by the ENT-
ER key.

If the setting is wrong disconnect the accumulator pack. Reconnect the accumula-
tors and enter parameters anew.
