PERATIONS
After it is confirmed that the board is communicating with the PC, click on the
OpenDialog.txt
button, which will
open the GUI Interface (as shown below) where you will be able to control the device.
The LED indicators on the board turn on (
RED
) when no Analog signal or a Run Length Limit (RLL) or K28.5
characters are detected. RX/TX ASD = Analog Signal Detect and RX/TX SDU = RLL or K28.5 detect.
CMU LOL:
Green
LED = CMU is
Locked with REFCLK.
Red
LED = CMU not
Locked with REFCLK
Red
LED = RX/TX analog signal not
detected & RLL & K28.5 errors occurred.
Green
LED = RX/TX analog signal
detected and it is RLL & K28.5 free.
Pattern
Checker
Pattern Generator:
Can only be used in
Retimer Mode.
Supports:
a) 2^7, 2^23 & 2^31
PRBS patterns.
b) CRPAT, CJPAT &
CSPAT FC patterns.
c) User defined 40- &
64- bit user patterns.
Update:
For status
registers that
clear only on
read, it is
necessary to
click on
“Update” more
than once.
Reset:
Resets
device.
16 Different Mode Selections:
Please refer to Table 3 in the
VSC8228 data sheet for pin control
mode selections or simply choose a
mode in the drop down
menu.
RXCLK Output:
J11 & J12

CMU Rate Control:

a) 1/2/4Gb/s Fibre Channel with 106.25MHz or 125MHz REFCLK.
b) 1/2/4Gb/s Ethernet with 125MHz or 62.5MHz REFCLK.
c) OC-3/12/48 SONET and ESCON with 62.5MHz, 125MHz & 155.52MHz
REFCLK.
RX/TX Input Signal Equalization:
By default or if the device is reset, the RX/TX
input equalization will be set to 7.0dB.
