10.5  Gas quality

Natural gas and combustion air must not contain any
phosphorus, arsenic, heavy metals, dust or halogens
to an extent greater than the specified limits.

The natural gas must be free of mist, dust and liquids
and must not contain any significantly corrosive
constituents. The methane number and net calorific
value of the natural gas must be constant.

The methane number (not to be confused with the
methane content!) is an indicator for the knocking
propensity of the respective gas type.

Too low a methane number leads to knocking
combustion and hence to engine damage.

In the case of liquid gas admixing (propane/air and
butane/air), a significant drop in the methane number
occurs and it must be ensured that the gas supplier
refrains from such practices.

10.6  AdBlue

TM

For operation of the SCR exhaust gas post-treatment
system, AdBlue

TM

 operating fluid is required.

This precise composition of the 32.5 % urea water
solution is specified in ISO 22241-1.

AdBlue

TM

 is classified as non-hazardous in

accordance with directives 67/548/EEC and
1999/45/EC, as well as Regulation (EC)
No 1272/2008.

10.7  Compressed air

The SCR system requires a permanent, external
supply of compressed air. The compressed air can be
provided either through an air compressor or from a
compressed air network (air quality at least as per
ISO 8573-1:2010 [4:-:4]).

The air is classified based on the definition of a
specific maximum percentage of contaminants that it
is allowed to contain. Particles, water and oil are
considered contaminants. Each class has a defined
maximum value for these three contaminants.
