Measuring the braking
force using the spring
balance
The braking force of the wheel swing brakes is measured using a
spring balance. The wheels must not be in contact with the ground
during measuring.
Fold the machine into its transport position.
Lift the machine using suitable lifting accessories so that the
wheels no longer touch the ground.
Secure the machine using supports.
Secure a traction cable approx. 50 cm (40 in) long to the rim of the
particular wheel:
Guide the traction cable through the hole in the rim, from the
inside to the outside, and secure with a knot.
Guide the cable around the wheel to the outside, as shown in
the illustration.
Hook the spring balance onto the cable and pull outwards at 90°
until the wheel starts to pivot.
Setting the wheel swing
brake
Set the desired tractive force:
Screw in or unscrew the bolt until the desired movement is
achieved.
Secure the bolt from below with an M10 nut to a tightening torque
of 75 Nm (55 ft.lbs).
When securing the nut, care must be taken to ensure that the running
wheel axle and the bolt do not pivot at the same time.
Repeat the process on the other wheel swing brakes.
All wheel swing brakes must be adjusted to the same force. The
tractive force should be between 50 and 70 N (12 and 16 lbf)
.
