Windspeed
The wind speed is idicated simultaneously in
Beaufort and in knots.
The maximum indication is 10 Beaufort resp. 48
knots.
The Beaufort Scale is a 12 division scale which
originaly was an attempt to get a relation
between the wind force and the sea.
The divisions of the Beaufort Scale are based
on an average velocity of the wind over a peri-
od of at least 10 minutes.
Note: Meteorologists measure the veloc-
ity of the wind at a height of 10 metres
above the surface of the earth in wide
open field!
Obstacles as trees and buildings, closely
to the anemometer (the rotor), have
great influence to the pattern of the air
flow. Keep this in mind when selecting a
location for the rotor/vane- unit and
where appropriate when interpreting the
wind force indicated by the instrument.
