Inleiding
Via de beluchtingsopening van een
faecaliën- of een dieselolietank
kunnen onaangename geuren vrij-
komen.
Dit is te voorkomen door het opne-
men van een
actief-koolfilter
in de
beluchtingsleiding.
Dit Vetus geurfilter bevat een met
actieve kool geïmpregneerd PUR-
schuimen filterelement.
De atomen van de geactiveerde
koolstof oefenen een aantrekkings-
kracht uit op de moleculen van de
langsstromende gassen.
De grootte van deze krachten is
afhankelijk van de moleculaire
structuur van deze gassen.
Verschillende gasmoleculen wor-
den met verschillende krachten
aangetrokken. Op deze manier is
het mogelijk om bepaalde (onge-
wenste) gassen uit een gasmeng-
sel te af te scheiden.
Waarschuwing
Bij toepassing van het filter bij
een faecaliëntank:
Het filter veroorzaakt in de
beluchtingsleiding extra weerstand.
Tijdens het
leegzuigen
van de fae-
caliëntank
door een afzuigstation
aan de wal
zal er mogelijk onvol-
doende ventilatielucht door de
beluchtingsleiding en het filter naar
de tank kunnen stromen. Houdt
hiermee rekening omdat het inklap-
pen van de tank het gevolg kan zijn.
Installatie
Voor installatievoorbeelden zie
tekening 1 en 2.
Installeer het filter op een droge,
koele en goed bereikbare plaats
boven de waterlijn.
Voor een goede werking moet het
filterelement
droog blijven. Houdt
hier bij het kiezen van de plaats
rekening mee.
Plaats het filter zo hoog dat er geen
vloeistof of schuim in het filter kan
komen. Houdt rekening met vloei-
stof of schuim uit de faecaliëntank
respectievelijk de dieselolietank of
water van buitenaf.
Houdt bij een zeilschip rekening
met varen onder een hellingshoek.
Bevestig het waterfilter tegen een
vertikaal schot.
Aansluitingen
De aansluitingen van het filter zijn
geschikt voor slang van ø 16 mm.
Pas voor beide verbindingen altijd
flexibele slang toe.
Gebruik uitsluitend water en/of
zeep, dus geen vet- of oliehouden-
de producten, om het monteren
van de slang op de slangaansluitin-
gen te vereenvoudigen.
Monteer een slangverbinding met
2, roestvaststalen, slangklemmen.
Beluchtingsleiding
Installeer een beluchtingsleiding
altijd aflopend van het filter naar de
tank. Monteer de flexibele belucht-
ingsleiding (slang) met voldoende
beugels om doorzakken of de vor-
ming van een zwanenhals te voor-
komen, zie tekening 3 en 4.
Pas eventueel vaste leiding (pijp)
toe om een grote afstand te over-
bruggen; sluit de vaste leiding altijd
met korte stukken slang aan op de
tank en op het geurfilter.
Onderhoud
Vervang het filterelement tenminste
éénmaal per jaar bij het begin van
het nieuwe vaarseizoen.
Vervang altijd het filterelement wan-
neer er vloeistof of schuim in het fil-
ter is gekomen.
Schroef het deksel los, zie tek.5.
Neem het filterelement uit het huis.
Reinig het filterhuis indien er vuil of
aangroei van alg aanwezig is.
Plaats het filterelement terug. Vet
de O-ring en de schroefdraad in
met b.v. siliconen-olie of teflon-
spray, zie tek. 6, en monteer het
deksel weer.
N.B. Draai het schroefdeksel altijd
met de hand los of vast. Gebruik
hiervoor nooit gereedschap, zie
tek. 7 en 8.
Controleer jaarlijks of de belucht-
ingsleiding niet verstopt of bescha-
digd is. Controleer ook de bevesti-
ging van de beluchtingsleiding, zie
‘Installatie, Beluchtingsleiding’.

Introduction
Unpleasant smells can escape from
the ventilation openings of a toilet
tank or diesel fuel tank.
This can be prevented by fitting an
Active Charcoal Filter
in the venti-
lation opening.
The Vetus No-Smell Filter contains
a PUR-foam filter element impreg-
nated with active charcoal.
Atoms of active charcoal attract
molecules from the gas as it flows
past. The extent of this attraction
depends on the molecular structure
of the gasses. Different gas mole-
cules are attracted to a different
extent. In this way, it is possible to
separate specific (unwanted)
gasses out from a gas mixture.
Warning
When fitting the Filter to a toilet
tank:
The filter creates extra resistance in
the vent line. During the
suction
emptying
of a toilet tank by a
suc-
tion pump on the dock wall
, it is
possible that insufficient air can
flow through to the tank via the vent
line and filter. Do take this into
account, to prevent the tank col-
lapsing.
Installation
For examples of installation see
Drawings 1 and 2.
Install the filter in a dry, cool and
easily accessible place above the
waterline. The
filter element
must
remain dry to ensure effective oper-
ation. Take this into account when
choosing a position.
Fit the filter high enough so that no
fluid or foam can enter the filter.
Check the maximum height of fluid
in the toilet tank, and the possibility
of foam in the diesel fuel tank, and
also water from outside.
With a sailing boat, take into
account sailing when heeled over.
Fit the filter against a vertical bulk-
head.
Connections
The filter connections are suitable
for hoses of 16 mm diameter.
Always use flexible hose for both
connections.
Use only water and/or soap (never
use grease or products containing
oil) to simplify connecting the hose
to the connectors.
Fit a hose connection with 2 stain-
less steel hose clamps.
Vent line
Always install a vent line sloping
down from the filter to the tank. Fit
the flexible vent line (hose) using
sufficient brackets to prevent sag-
ging or the creation of a siphon -
see Drawings 3 and 4.
If necessary, use rigid metal or plas-
tic pipes to cover large distances,
always connect the rigid pipe to the
tank and No-Smell Filter with short
lengths of flexible hose.
Maintenance
Replace the filter element at least
once a year at the start of the sail-
ing season.
Always replace the filter if liquid or
foam has entered it. Unscrew the
cap - see Drawing 5.
Remove the strainer element out of
the housing. Clean the filter hous-
ing if dirt or algen growth is present.
Re-install the strainer element.
Lubricate the O-ring and screw
thread with silicon oil or Teflon
spray - see Drawing 6, and refit the
cap.
N.B.: Always remove and refit the
screw cap by hand only, never use
tools for this, see Drawings 7 and 8.
Every year, check to see that the
vent line has not been blocked or
damaged. Also check the vent line
fittings, see ‘Installation, Air Vent
line’.
