CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
YEARLY SERVICE PROCEDURE
Failure to inspect and maintain heater may lead to im-
proper combustion and a potentially dangerous situation.
A quali
fi
ed technician should do the following once a year.
1. Check pilot
fl
ame. Flame should touch approximately
3/8" of the top of thermopile and touch top of thermo-
couple.

If not, contact dealer for service.
2. Turn switch to “OFF” position and gas shut off to off
to turn gas off to heater.
See step “To Turn Off Gas”,
Page 27.
Allow heater to cool for 15 minutes. Remove
decorative face (if installed) and door glass.

3. Carefully remove log set or stones (if applicable). If logs
or stones are severely deteriorated, replace. Check
logs or stones for sooting. A small amount of soot along
bottom of either is normal. If excessive sooting is found,
heater must be adjusted. Contact dealer where you
bought heater.
4. Remove rock wool or decorative glass. Clean burner
and burner ports.

5. Replace log set and rock wool or stones and glass ac-
cording to instructions on Pages 21-22. Replace glass
door. Make sure gasket along perimeter of glass con-
tacts face of
fi
rebox and forms an airtight seal. Realign
if airtight seal is not formed. Replace door glass and
glass frame if damaged.
6. Inspect area around controls. Clean if necessary. Check
gas control valve and all gas lines. If damaged, do not
use heater. Contact your dealer.
7. Start pilot and turn on main burner. Flames should be
orange/yellow and not touch top of
fi
rebox. If pilot or
main burners do not burn correctly, contact your dealer
for service. Monitor blower operation.
