Connecting a Field Device
to set up the device. The RS232/RS485 serial port and the 3.5mm
serial debug port on the device are used for data collection and device configuration,
respectively. To connect a field device, for instance a PLC, to the DE20-BT, follow the steps
below.
1.
Take three DuPont wires crimped with male connectors at both ends, and prepare an
RS232 to RS485 adapter (for illustration only, make sure to use tools or adapters that
are compatible with the connectors you are connecting);
2.
Ensure you properly identify the screen printing of the pins on both the RS232 to RS485
adapter and the serial port of the DE20-BT. For RS232 mode, connect the RXD pin to
TXD pin, TXD pin to RXD pin, and GND pin to GND pin; for RS485 mode, connect the
RS485_A pin to RS485_A pin, and RS485_B pin to RS485_B pin;
3.
Unscrew the 3-pin connector that is included in the package and the terminal end of
the RS232 to RS485 adapter;
4.
Insert one end of each DuPont wire to the appropriate pins on the RS232 to RS485
adapter and the other end to the 3-pin connector following the pinout described in the
prior step, then tighten the screws;
5.
Insert the DB9 female connector of the RS232 to RS485 adapter into the serial port of
the PLC (a DB9 male to DB9 female adapter might be needed depending on the
interfaces available on the PLC);
