10 Inspection and maintenance
11 Taking out of service
For permanent operational readiness and safety, reliabil-
ity and a long working life, your electric domestic hot
water cylinder requires inspections and maintenance
work to be carried out by an approved heating engineer.
Vaillant recommends that you sign a maintenance con-
tract.
i
Only an approved heating engineer is permit-
ted to carry out inspection, maintenance and
repair work.
10.1 Interval
A maintenance service must be carried out at least once
every 3 years.
In an area of very hard water, Vaillant recommends that
the maintenance service be carried out once a year.
10.2 Descaling
Limescale formation depends on water quality, the
selected water temperature and the amount of hot
water consumed. In an open-vented electric domestic
hot water cylinder, limescale can result in increased
pressure and, in the worst case scenario, irreparable
damage to the electric domestic hot water cylinder.
Avoid scaling by having the unit inspected and descaled
regularly.
>
Check the inner tank for deposits.
>
Remove the deposits by chemical (descaling agent)
or mechanical (wooden spatula) means.

Taking out of service
11.1
Taking out of service temporarily
If the VEN electric domestic hot water cylinder is to be
placed out of operation for a relatively long period of
time in an unheated room, the water in the cylinder
should be drained off (after disconnection from the
mains power supply).
The electric domestic hot water cylinder can be taken
out of service temporarily, e.g. for the purpose of main-
tenance work.
>
Unplug the mains plug.
>
Close the cold water stop valve.
11.2
Taking out of service permanently

nently out of service, proceed as follows:
>
Unplug the mains plug.
>
Close the cold water stop valve.
>
Carefully loosen the cold and hot water connections.

Completely drain the electric domestic hot water
cylinder.
